I am the bringer of death...
I kill many...
no more, no more...
scared...
shocked....
I take them away...
I eat them...
They scream...
scream stays forever in caverns...
spirits...
search for body...
no more, no more...
the escape...
the canyon of lost...
they never leave...
Verzara's story- Painting on cavern wall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many moons the tribe cats have been here. Reports of Verzara and sightings have been rare, and have struck fear into every tribe and clan cat. The legendary cat eater was first seen in one of the ancient tunnels in the sea cave. Drawings of a beast so huge and gruesome... It was nameless. The tribe cats named it Verzara, meaning "Devil", "Demon", and "Death".
Ep'nic
Ep'nic was a tribe cat stargazer. He knew when the planets would arrange and new where the stars would be set. One day, the island god Zunus came down from the stars. His pelt was as dark as a night and his eyes where brighter than the moon.
"Ep'nic, we have watched you from above. You have become very wise in your moons. Yet you are not even an elder. Ep'nic, we have come. You have wisdom. We feel that your life should not be wasted.
Ep'nic had many questions, "What do you mean you have come? My life is not wasted is it?"
Zunus paused for a moment, his silver eyes staring right into Ep'nic's eyes. "Ep'nic, great evil has come. Evil beyond our power to stop. The evil of the ground-world has come."
Ep'nic froze in terror, the ground-world was a very evil place indeed. But a demon coming from it? Oh no...
"The greatest demon of all Ep'nic. Nameless." Zunus said, his voice thundering.
Ep'nic new little of the ground-world. His eyes were set on the stars, not the place where demons came from.
"You are smart Ep'nic, use your smarts to save your people before it comes." And with that, Zunus flew up to the clouds. Leaving Ep'nic alone.
Ep'nic was alone, left with his thoughts. His tribe, the Keepers of the Forest, would never listen to him. They already hated him, called him a liar, insane, ect. ect. ect... But would they listen now? He only new one cat that would.
Ep'nic walked into camp. Eyes darting back and forth at him and whispers in the air. Ep'nic walked up to his lover, Opalae. Opalae greeted him with a purr.
"Dear Opalae, my love, I have a terrible burden." Ep'nic said. Opalae's happy mood turned into a sad one. "What would that be?"
"Great evil is coming. The nameless demon. Opalae, no one shall listen to me. Perhaps you can warn them?"
Opalae thought a moment and said, "If I speak of this maybe the medicine cat will remember the demon. I will do this. Dear Ep'nic you have been ignored for far too long. They need to know how smart you are!"
Before Ep'nic could add to anything else, Opalae gathered the tribe. Only her and her father the chief could do so.
"Listen young and old! A terrible evil is coming, the nameless demon! We must leave the lands and go to the cave, where we are safe!"
The medicine cat Tooka spoke up, "Why Opalae it is impossible for the nameless demon to come without meaning. Where did you hear this from?"
Opalae looked down at Ep'nic, "My dear one Ep'nic." Suddenly all the tribe cats laughed, for they all thought Ep'nic was crazy. Even the smallest kits laughed.
Ep'nic suddenly heard something in the distance. Something he had never heard before... it was un-cat. Not from this Earth... eerie.... and nothing any animal would ever make. Ep'nic knew what it was, the demon.
"It was just a boulder that’s all! Falling down the mountains!" Said the tribe leader Calad, making sure that Ep'nic would stay wrong. For he didn't want the tribe fool to be a hero. HE wanted to be the hero.
Ep'nic looked into his mate’s eyes, "My love Opalae we must leave of we will perish too. It is near."
Opalae looked back at him, "You are my mate. I will be with you forever.” As soon as she said that, Ep'nic and Opalae ran off into the woods towards the cave. Sometimes Ep'nic would look above him, and thought he saw Zunus looking down on him. And what seemed like hours, they reached the cave in a few minutes. Staying safe in the one place they knew was protected by all the gods.
The demon roared, then charged through the trees. It was taller than any tree. The demon killed all the cats and ate them all, he killed them for his fun, and left no cat alive. The Keepers of the Forest Tribe was no more.
After a few days Ep'nic and Opalae came to see if anyone was alive. They found nothing. All but a tiny kit huddled under a rock. Her fur was gray and she was splattered with another cats blood. "Oh Ep'nic, we were so vey wrong! When the demon came towards me I shouted Ep'nic was right, I believe! Then it went off to kill all the others!"
Ep'nic was not mad at the kit. Him and Opalae soothed it. They had learned the young kits name was Iphuese. Suddenly, light flashed before them, and Zunus stood before them. "You have failed to make the tribe trust you Ep'nic. But what you did was right. You and your mate are the only cats on the island now, that and the little kit. You must remake the tribe. With your smarts, Opalae's love, and Iphuese's herbal skills, you shall be the best tribe yet. I trust you. Make me proud." With the whip of his tail, 5 kits appeared before Ep'nic. "Train them well Ep'nic. May the tribe be stronger than ever before!" Ep'nic blinked, and Zunus was gone.
So after many moons, the kits were trained, Ep'nic and Opalae had kits, and Iphuese new every herb on the island. They created what today is the Tribe of the Mountain Watchers, so they will be able to see when the demon comes again. It was Iphuese's idea to name it Vurzara. They lived many moons in peace. When Ep'nic, Opalae, and Iphuese died, they settled into the stars as gods.
Those who have Ep'nic's bloodline have hidden powers. Though no one knows who has his blood.
It is still unknown why the Verzara attacks. Though ever since then he has not made a mass feeding. Some cats will be plucked out of the forest, perhaps off to go hunting, and never be found again.
